Rogers Cup Wednesday Preview

Wednesday at the Rogers Cup in Toronto, Canada brings us some great second round action. We'll be seeing most of the top seeds, and we'll be seeing certain players for the first time since Wimbledon. Read on for the Wednesday preview!

The first match on Center Court will feature the top two Chinese players, Peng Shuai and Li Na. Both of these players are having excellent years, and, although Li Na has been the more successful player so far, Peng won their last match. (Indian Wells 2011) However, I see Li Na taking this match in two as she was in her post-Australian Open slump during their last match and had lost only eleven games to her compatriot in their previous three meetings.

The next match on Center Court will feature world number one Caroline Wozniacki and Roberta Vinci. Although I don't see Vinci even taking a set off of Wozniacki, this match will be interesting because Vinci knows how to mix it up and will not give Wozniacki much power to feed off of. Wozniacki will have a great opportunity to practice being aggressive tomorrow.

Following the Wozniacki match will be a match against Julia Goerges and Serena Williams. Goerges looks to have found her form at Rogers Cup, and she can give Serena some problems. However, I think that Serena will tough it out in two sets with one set being very close and the other being pretty one sided. After all, Goerges is not known for her consistency and has a tendency to spray a lot of balls when she isn't feeling on.

On Grandstand, we'll be seeing Vera Zvonareva duke it out against Nadia Petrova. Zvonareva is coming off a win at Baku and a final at San Diego. Petrova won Washington DC. Either of these women could win the match. Petrova has a better serve and better groundstrokes, but Zvonareva has much better movement and better netplay. Zvonareva is also more consistent than Petrova. I think that, after three sets, Zvonareva will win the match based on her superior mental toughness.

Other players playing tomorrow include Wimbledon champion, Petra Kvitova, Wimbledon finalist, Maria Sharapova and Wimbledon semifinalist, Victoria Azarenka.
