New Haven Preview

New Haven is the final event of the US Open Series. The defending champion is Caroline Wozniacki who defeated Nadia Petrova in the finals. The field has been considerably strengthened in the past couple days with the addition of Li Na, Jelena Jankovic and Marion Bartoli. Read on for my preview of the event.

The first quarter of the draw's top seed is Caroline Wozniacki, the number one player in the world. However, she's won just one match since Wimbledon. Nadia Petrova, last year's finalist, could face Wozniacki in the second round, and Christina McHale, the player who defeated Wozniacki in Cincy, could face Wozniacki in the third round.

The second quarter of the draw has Francesca Schiavone and Jelena Jankovic. Jankovic has been showing amazing tennis lately, and she should make it through this section of the draw.

The third quarter of the draw has Agniezska Radwanska and Marion Bartoli. Radwanska has an amazing H2H record against Bartoli; she has won all six of their past encounters. Daniela Hantuchova was the other player in this section of the draw who could do some damage, but she withdrew earlier today. Radwanska be this quarter's semifinalist.

The final quarter of the draw has one star player- Li Na, the highest paid female athlete (she recently overtook Sharapova). Luckily for her, Sam Stosur playing New Haven, so she doesn't really have anything to worry about. However, Vinci is a potentially dangerous player. Vinci has great variety which can take Li out of her groove.

I think that Li Na will win the tournament. She needs matches going into the US Open, and there isn't really anyone who can challenge her here.
