Dallas Preview

The week before the US Open, there will be two tournaments, a premier event in New Haven and an international event in Dallas. The event in Dallas isn't part of the US Open Series. However, it still has a very strong field - especially for an international event. Read on for my predictions.

The top seed is Peng Shuai of China. However, she's been suffering from a hip injury, and she has said that she will most likely withdraw from Dallas. That said, a healthy Peng Shuai would have been a favorite for the title.

Besides Peng, there are three contenders for the title- Dominika Cibulkova, Julia Goerges and Sabine Lisicki. Cibulkova and Lisicki are in the same quarter of the draw, so that potential quarterfinal should be quite entertaining.

Cibulkova and Lisicki are both big hitters, but Lisicki has a bigger serve. However, both players have very attackable second serves, and both players struggle with consistency. Although Cibulkova's dips don't come as often, I'd say that Lisicki has the slight advantage as Cibulkova is coming off an injury, and it remains to be seen whether her form is back to its peak yet.

Another very inconsistent player who could go far in this tournament is Julia Goerges. Goerges has an amazing serve and forehand but often sprays a lot of balls when she isn't on. However, in this field, I'd say she has a great shot at getting to the finals and has a chance of winning it.

If I had to choose a winner, I'd say Lisicki. She had a horrible Cincy, and she'll be wanting revenge. When she's on, she's easily a top ten player, and if all her strokes are clicking, she'll be hard to beat.
