Midweek Update- Baku

This week, the only WTA tournament is an international tournament held in Baku. The field was highlighted by Vera Zvonareva and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. So far, there have been some interesting stories.

The big story of the week so far is Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova's three set defeat to Galina Voskoboeva. The reason for her loss? She hit a 27 double faults over the course of three sets. (She hit 25 over two sets in her opening round.) What was wrong with her serve? Via twitter, she said that she was trying out a new service motion. However, because she can't seem to get serves in, she has decided to go back to her old service motion.

Although it didn't turn out well for her, it's nice to see a top player still trying to improve her serve. It was a good idea for her to do it in a small event like Baku, and she shouldn't have any regrets.

In other Baku news, Vera Zvonareva looks like she has recovered from her ankle injury that hampered her during Wimbledon. She is in the semifinals.

Ksenia Pervak, who reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon, is in the semifinals as well. This is her second consecutive semifinal at a WTA tournament.
